Will Technology Replace The Classroom?

As an educator, I see the advances of technology fast replacing the educational dinosaur, we call a classroom.

Questions we all need to ask ourselves:

1. What do we think an education is for?
2. How do we educate our children?
3. Do we teach people skills or values?
4. Are we teaching children to think creatively?

Students are very savvy in the use of computers, as they have access to all sorts of information. It's like going to the library, but without the bother of driving there. Of course there is always the problem of "going to the library"; and not reading anything.

We need to start instructing students in the use of computers, zeroing in on seven core skills: defining, accessing, managing, integrating, evaluating, creating, and communicating information. The seven core skill areas can be broken down into simple tasks for elementary students, and built upon as the students progress in their knowledge of computer skills.

I just finished reading Neil Postman's, "Technopoly", which takes an opposing viewpoint to the value of technology in our society. The reality is, that technology is here to stay and it becomes more advanced and sophisticated every day. Computers have tooling and format information programmed into them so that spelling, grammar, and page set up can be automatically checked and, in some instances, done for you. Technology especially computers) continue to make our lives more efficient by saving us time, energy, and the ability to communicate on a global scale using various network systems available to computer users. Many programs available to computer users actually teach people of all ages various skills that used to be taught in the classroom. Since this is the case, then why is formal education even necessary? The question provides educational food for thought.

Pay Per Click Success Secrets - 7 Great Basic Tips to Success in Content Network in Adwords

There are several significant factors to ensure that your ads will perform well on the content network in Adwords. By optimizing those factors, you will increase the opportunities to earn more commission on your affiliate website and perform well your ads on the content network. Many studies reveal that the content network advertising or site targeting promoting is not suitable for all new affiliate marketing entrepreneurs who just enter to the affiliate marketing and PPC online advertising world. However, there are a few sources to show you that you can maximize the profits and ROI through the content network in Adwords. Also, it can be a great alternative approach to grow the affiliate marketing business and earn more money online.

Here are the basic tips you must concern when you are advertising through the content network.

1. Create the Best Campaign Structure. There is no doubt that campaign and ad-group management are significant elements for your success in PPC online advertising, particularly in Adwords. You have to divide your keywords into the similar group and create the best PPC online campaign along with the ad-group. Obviously it appears that you have to link the relevancy between campaign and ad-group along with the keywords in each ad-group. The easy approaches to create the best campaign structure are to start with: (1) classification and (2) common keywords in each ad-group.

For example, you are advertising the affiliate marketing e-book through Adwords. You might classify the affiliate marketing e-book into 3 groups: (1) affiliate marketing (2) traffic generation and (3) internet marketing. Each group can start with common keyword phrases as follows: (1) affiliate marketing (2) traffic generation and (3) internet marketing respectively.

2. Optimize Your Keywords in Each Ad-Group. It appears that keywords are the most important elements in PPC online advertising. You have to optimize your keywords very well in each ad-group when you are working on the content network. You have to limit a maximum number of keywords in each group for optimization. The golden rule for conducting the keywords in each ad-group for content network is to limit your keywords around 3-15 keywords. With those keywords, you can maximize the relevancy among ad-group, keywords themselves, ad-copy and landing page.

3. Write the High Attractive Ads. The next significant element for your success in the content network is your ads. You have to write the high attractive ads. The characteristics of high attractive ads could be: (1) direct to your audience (2) highlight your major benefits (3) address the proper call-to-action phrase and (4) grab reader's attention.

4. Separate the Content Bids. Many experiments reveal that separating the content bids in Adwords is a great idea and approach to maximize the ROI and profits online. You can control and monitor fully the bids price for your ads separately. However, the content bids maybe affect directly to the ads position. You have to test and monitor what the best content bids and ads position are. With the extensively testing, you will find out the best marketing strategies, bids and position.

5. Include the Negative Keywords. This strategy is a must when you are using the broad keywords in your PPC campaigns, even you are promoting on the content network. Including the negative keywords has proven that it can help you increase your ROI dramatically. The easiest approach to find out the negative keywords is to use the Google keywords tool. With that tool, you will generate a lot of negative keywords toward to your focus keywords.

6. Exclude Irrelevancy Sites. This marketing strategy is similar to the previous one, but the different point is to exclude all irrelevancy sites toward to your affiliate website. With this exclusion, it has proven that it can help you boost skyrocket the earning and relevancy. The easiest approach to exclude those irrelevancy sites is to use the Google's site exclusion tool.

7. Monitor, Track and Test Extensively. The last strategies to your success in the content network in Adwords are to: (1) monitor everything, especially keywords, ad-group and landing page (2) track the conversion rate of keywords and landing page closely and (3) test everything in the campaign. The highest recommendation is to focus on the PPC campaigns with the content network feature every day. The reason why you have to focus every day is that you have to monitor and track the traffic closely. Without the relevancy and the proper techniques for optimization, the quality of traffic will be definitely low.

Final thoughts, the advertising in the content network in Adwords is an alternative way to earn more money on the internet through PPC online advertising. The content network is not recommended for all new affiliate marketing entrepreneurs. However, it can be a great alternative to earn more money on the internet and grow the affiliate marketing business for experienced affiliate marketing entrepreneurs.

Can I Cure My Diabetes By Becoming A Vegetarian?

Some people who have moved over to a vegetarian diet are convinced that it has been responsible for curing their diabetes but can this really be the case or is there something else at work here?

Diet is a very important factor when it comes to diabetes but here we are normally talking principally about controlling the level of sugar in the bloodstream and so we are looking at changes to our dietary habits which control our intake of sugar. So can a vegetarian diet help in this respect?

Vegetarians fall into three categories - vegans, lacto-vegetarians and lacto-ovo vegetarians. Vegans eat no animal products, including products derived from animals such as eggs and milk, and their diet is confined solely to plant-based foods. Lacto-vegetarians add milk and some milk based products to an otherwise plant-based diet, but exclude eggs. Finally, lacto-ovo-vegetarians add milk, milk based products such as cheese and yogurt and eggs to a plant-based diet.

In all of these cases, because the diet is essentially centered on fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and possibly some dairy products, it is essentially a low cholesterol, low fat, high fiber diet and tends, by its very nature, to reduce sugar intake and so assist with the control of diabetes.

However, in many people who convert to a vegetarian diet there is something else hard at work in combating diabetes.

The substantial rise in diabetes, especially in the West, is due in no small measure to the fact that we are gaining weight at an alarming rate and that obesity has now reached epidemic proportions in many countries, with the United States leading the field. Weight gain is a major risk factor for diabetes and many people are developing the disease for no other reason than the fact that they are gaining weight.

The solution of course, in the first instance and before the problem gets out of hand, is simply to go on a diet, start taking some exercise and lose weight and what could be better for accomplishing this than a low cholesterol, low fat, low sugar, high fiber vegetarian diet.

So, returning to our original question - can you cure your diabetes by becoming a vegetarian? - the simple answer is yes but it is not the diet itself which will cure your diabetes, but the fact that it can both help you to control your sugar intake and lose weight which is doing the trick. To this end it is a change in diet which is the answer and, while this could be to a vegetarian diet, this does not have to be the case.

Allergies - Nasal

Nasal allergies are caused by pollen, dust and dander in the air that people breathe. These allergens present problems in the form of coughing, sneezing watery eyes and runny nose and in most cases causes those affected to feel miserable. The symptoms are much like a common cold and are hard to distinguish between the two.

The body responds to these allergens through the immune system. The immune system produces antibodies to fight off the allergy, but for a person who is allergic to the allergens, the effect is more severe. Those who are not allergic, can tolerate the allergens. Many times older people will develop allergies due to their weakened immune system.

Certain seasons of the year present allergy symptoms, such as February through July, when tree pollen is high; April through July, grass pollens are high; August through October, ragweed and other weed pollens are high. Thus, spring through fall is the time allergy sufferers are bothered by the different pollens in the air.

All this depends on what region of the country you live in, as plants pollinate differently, according to their geographic locations. Also, allergies could be worse some seasons of the year than others, which means you are allergic to certain pollutants and not all of them. Your physician will test you to find out what you are allergic to and by knowing this, you will be able to avoid the pollutants that bother you.

Ragweed pollen is one of the worst, as it is so easily spread through the air by the wind carrying it for many, many miles. So even though you try to protect yourself by not having plants too close around you, the ragweed pollen can be transmitted to you through the wind.

Mold is another irritant for allergy sufferers. There are thousands of types of mold and yeast and they can be found indoors or outdoors. Outdoors molds grow in compost piles, rotting logs and fallen leaves. Thus, in the fall when you are raking leaves, your exposure to mold is high. Indoor mold grows in damp basements, refrigerators, houseplants, mattresses and furniture. Mold spores are found everywhere, so allergies to mold sometimes outnumber pollen allergies.

Allergies to pet dander are also a common problem. Being around dogs and cats can cause individuals to sneeze and cough for hours.

If you have nasal allergies during the winter, it could be that you are allergic to dust mites, as they live in carpets and upholstered furniture. They are microscopic organisms, not seen by the human eye, but they can survive all winter inside a house, so anyone who is allergic to dust mites would have allergy problems during the winter time.

It is important to have your doctor advise you on what things you should avoid to try and prevent an allergy attack and, also, prescribe the best treatment in the form of relieving symptoms of nasal allergies.

There are many medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, to relieve the symptoms of nasal allergies. The past few years, saline solution nasal washes have been found to be effective in treating the symptoms of allergies. It is a gentle nasal wash that brings fast acting relief for coughing, sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. It is drug-free and can be purchased over-the-counter at drug stores.

Details, Details, Details

I have a dear friend who, as our Consulting Resource Teacher, does much of the special education testing in our school district. Recently, I asked her what information teachers can give to help her know exactly what to look for in each child she tests.

This is what she told me:

Most of the teachers do a wonderful job with the referral forms. However, it is NOT helpful to me when a teacher writes, "... is below grade level in reading," or "... is not working up to his potential in math." This is too general. I like it when a teacher gives me specifics such as, "The child...

a. ...cannot follow more than a two-step direction."
b. ... seems to know his sight words one day, but then the next day, it's like he's never seen them before."
c. ... is easily distracted."
d. ... has a very short attention span, especially when it comes to his written work, but during show and tell or read-aloud, he's very attentive."
e. ... seems to have a better visual than verbal memory."
f. ... does not know the letter names, but when given the name and asked to point to them, he is able to do so (It could be numbers instead of letters).
g. ... is well liked and has many friends (or the opposite)."
h. ... functions best in the morning (or afternoon)."
i. ... understands what he reads very well."
j. ... contributes a great deal of information during class time."

The more detail the teacher can give me the better.

a. Does he notice number and letter reversals, inversions, etc.?
b. Can she follow print?
c. Does he get mixed up when doing addition or subtraction on an unlined piece of paper?
d. Does she rub her eyes, squint, turn her head to one side or the other?

This is all helpful information.

When I get a referral that says, "Johnny cannot read and is not working up to grade level", with no more information than that, I do the standard battery of tests. Then, when I learn later in conversation with that same teacher that Johnny can't sit still, or Johnny can't attend for anymore than two minutes, or Johnny has missed X number of days of school, or Johnny recently lost an uncle, I realize that perhaps I used the wrong test.

If I had known this information first, I might have given a different test, perhaps one for Attention Deficit Disorder. So I have to go back and do that test afterwards. That information also affects HOW I give the test. Perhaps I could have given it in shorter time spans.

My friend had some excellent points. The more specific information you can give, the better it is for the child. Testing is difficult enough on any child, but when the person doing the testing doesn't have the right information, or not enough information, it can make testing more difficult.

I always found it helpful when teachers would show me as the evaluator, any concrete illustrations of the child's problems, such as written work that shows how he spells, or documentation of specific instances of difficulty in the classroom, like his trouble with being able to copy information from the board. I realize that teachers have a tremendous work load, but any specific information you can give about that child will help the child not just on the testing, but in the future as well. And, after all, isn't that student's success in life what education's all about?

Office Space In Britain - Make Your Work Space Work For You

Todays working environment is less formal than previous decades, evolving into an image conscious zone which is both comfortable and colourful. As workers spend more and more hours in the office and less time at home, the work place has become increasingly attractive and aesthetically pleasing. One major trend which is taking Britains offices by storm is the art of Feng shui. This ancient method of spatial organisation claims to create the most harmonious and balanced workspace ensuring happy workers and improved results. Indeed, business people in Asia have followed Feng Shui principles for centuries as a crucial part of business success.

So how are Feng Shui offices in Britain developing a more efficient working environment?

The most important principle to follow is to eliminate clutter by managing paperwork and files effectively. If you dont need a file, throw it away in order to create more space and less distractions. This will save time and money and also improve the look of the office.

The position of your table and chair is also important when it comes to attracting money to your business. The best position is to face the door in order to appear commanding and to see who is approaching. The wall or corner will offer you energetic support and you are more likely to feel confident about future business if you can see it coming. Alternatively if moving your desk is impossible, place a mirror on your monitor to allow clear visibility.

To increase the level of chi energy flow leave at least 7-9 inches of space between each piece of furniture. Unnecessary items of furniture should be stored away and taken out when needed so that workers feel less claustrophobic and are more relaxed. Green healthy plants can also add to the workers sense of serenity, while unsightly cables should be hidden to eliminate chaos, evoking a sense of security and control.

A practical lighting idea also follows the Chinese principles of harmony. Harsh overhead fluorescent lights are often the cause of headaches and tired eyes. A solution is to use an anti-glare filter on computer monitors and to remove one or more of the lights to decrease the intensity. Whether Feng Shui seems like mystical nonsense or just plain old common sense, there is no doubt that offices in the UK are finding the principles ever more attractive. It is argued that the effective use of space can not only entice new customers and increase workers concentration but also reduce insomnia and stress, boost health, and enhance financial security. The most successful businesses in Britain know that the image of working premises have a huge impact on people's impression of the company. Feng Shui your way to business success and turn your office into a space that begs to be worked in.
